About Us
The Warner Family Story:
We moved to Cimarron March of 2020 to open a Christian coffee shop, Hikers Coffee Co. It is a family owned an operated coffee shop offering specialty drinks, pastries, ice cream shop and gifts. Against many odds we have moved to New Mexico and opened a business during the Covid Pandemic.
The beginning of this wild journey started on June 24th 2014 when Steven, Caitlin and Austin participated in a 12 day trek at Philmont Scout Ranch. Coming from the flatlands of Houston to the Mountains of Northern New Mexico, we had no idea that that trip would open a door to an unknown future 6 years later. 2 years following the trek in 2014, Caitlin and Austin worked at Philmont in the back country for a combined 8 seasons. In 2015, Steven and Aubrey had the opportunity to go on a trek and experience more of the beautiful mountains. And Melissa and Grace visited over the years.
In 2019, Caitlin worked at Philmont in Cimarron NM while the rest of her family stayed home to work or finish school. Her sister Austin was attending nursing school at the time and was not able to be back out at Philmont. Although Austin was unable to work at Philmont she visited many times throughout the summer with Steven. Visits to Cimarron were great, though there was not many options to find breakfast tacos or great coffee between there and Clayton. It first started out with Steven teasing that if he came back out here one more time he would pack everything up and move to Cimarron to open a taco truck. Three trips later God put a calling on Stevens hear that he and Melissa needed to open a Christian coffee shop.
In August, Steven and Austin visited Cimarron and on this particular trip made a point of stopping at every shop in town and talking with anyone and everyone about whether or not there was a real need or want for coffee and breakfast tacos in town. Time and time again, they heard confirmation that both were needed in the town.
Over Labor Day Weekend in 2019, Melissa and Steven visited and met with a realtor to see what was available in town that could work for a coffee shop. After looking at a few different locations it was time to start planning. A few weeks later they placed a contract on a building. Unfortunately weeks later they would receive news that the building was not a viable option. However, another option became available and a contract was offered. That building was the old Art Gallery in Cimarron. Fast forward to February 28, 2020 papers were signed and the dream of Hikers Coffee Co was another step closer to becoming real.
In early March, Melissa, Caitlin and Austin moved into the building while Aubrey was away at school and Steven and Grace continued to live in Houston. Unfortunately not even 2 weeks of living in Cimarron, Covid-19 hit and everything came to a halt. Although COVID shook things up a bit we were still able to chug along and work on painting, planning and repurposing. After numerous months of challenges and excitement, Hikers Coffee Co opened its doors on October 1, 2020.
Over the past year there have been many challenges but so many more blessings. Steven, Melissa and Family thank everyone that has continued to pray for their journey and stepped in to help wherever and whenever.
It is our belief that Hikers Coffee Co was placed on our hearts by our Lord and Savior and He has special plans for the future of Hikers Coffee Co. Time and time again, our Father has blessed us, given us hope, answered prayers and has not only walked alongside us but carried us in His arms. We are thankful for all we have and for what we have been entrusted. This has been an adventure that our entire family has been a part of - each person being an integral part. We hope to offer you an exceptional cup of coffee and a kind word. As we grow, we will continue to add additional coffee, food and dessert options...and yes, someday breakfast tacos!
Over the years we became very close with Sue and Andy who owned the Cimarron Inn. They were part of our Cimarron Family. Tragically in October of 2021 Andy passed away. After many prayers and reflection we decided to take on the Cimarron Inn in an effort to get Sue back to the UK and to ensure the legacy continued. On December 1st 2021 the Cimarron Inn & RV Park was officially rebranded Hikers Cimarron Inn & RV Park. The legacy created by Sue and Andy as well as all previous owners will continue.
Much Love and Prayers,
